Hello, I'm Albert Lee Massimi, a watercolor artist with a lifelong appreciation for the beauty and importance of plants. I've always been fascinated by the incredible variety of shapes, colors, and textures found in the botanical world, but what inspires me most is that plants are the sustenance of life. They nourish us, support countless ecosystems, and quietly make life on Earth possible. Through watercolor, I enjoy celebrating both their beauty and their significance.
Many of my paintings begin in my own garden, where I spend time growing, observing, and sketching the plants that inspire me. Botanical art allows me to combine my love of nature with careful observation, capturing the unique character of each plant while preserving the delicate colors, intricate details, and forms that make every species distinctive.
Over the years, I'm grateful that my botanical watercolors have found an audience beyond my studio. I have been honored to be included in the "Query" section of The Botanical Artist magazine. Two of my paintings have been acquired for the permanent collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon University, where my work was described as "ethereal." It has been rewarding to see my work recognized by organizations that share my appreciation for botanical art.
